The History: IRIS Biotech was established in 2001 as an offspring of the world wide operating enterprise CFM Oskar Tropitzsch whose origin goes back to the first chemical company founded in Germany in the 18th century.Wolfgang Caspar Fikentscher (1770-1837) was learning as young man pharmacy in Nuremberg. Back home after several years of education he asked his father for a credit and founded in the age of 18 on 24th July 1788 in Marktredwitz the first chemical factory in Germany. He was a real pioneer, as nothing was known these days about how to build and run a factory. However, with his entrepreneur spirit and because of his education and experiences, he knew how to source raw materials and how to overcome bottlenecks in production. As he also knew very well, which products were needed in the market, his company grew faster and faster. At that time he started producing Phosphorus, Nitric Acid, Benzoic Acid and several Mercury Derivatives. CFM (Chemische Fabrik Marktredwitz) became an important economical factor in the 19th century in Central Europe. W.C. Fikentscher passed away in 1837 and his sons became his successors in leading the company. Some 50 years later in 1890 the Tropitzsch brothers acquired the company and intensified research and development in particular in the field of Mercury derivatives. CFM became one of the leading companies in Europe in the agrochemical, plant protection and fine chemical sector in the late 19th and early 20th century. In the beginning of the 1980s production was more and more outsourced to other locations around the world. As consequence in 1985 the company was transformed into the today existing CFM Oskar Tropitzsch, which kept administration in Germany and transferred production technology to different sites around the world. The today's portfolio has a wide range from reagents for analytics, biotechnology to specialities and pharmaceutical intermediates. This engagement led in 1998 to the participation in the supply chain of raw materials for the largest peptide produced until today on solid support. In order to further strengthen CFM Oskar Tropitzsch's position in the Life Science market and to concentrate expertise and experience IRIS Biotech was founded as their sister concern. Our Products and Services: IRIS Biotech is specialized in reagents for Peptide Ssynthesis and products for Life Science Research. We have specific know-how and production capabilities to manufacture and supply products from the following areas from Grams to Multi-Ton Lots: Starting Materials for Peptide Synthesis (Protected Amino Acids, Coupling Reagents, Linkers and Resins) Reagents for PEGylation (monodisperse and polydisperse; short (MW 300) to very long (MW 20.000) Glycol Spacers, hydrophobic and amphiphilic SpacerMolecules; Contract Manufacturing of PEG Spacers and PEGylation Reagents for Life Science Research (Aflatoxines, Cyclosporines, Cytochalasins, Geldanamycin, Methoxatin, Rapamycin, etc.) Carbohydrates (Derivatives of Arabinose, Galactose, Glucose, Mannose, Xylose, etc.) We are carrying out many Contract Manufacturing projects in these areas; our strong points are unusual derivatives with one or several chiral centres. We follow cGMP and ISO9000 and supply from typical lab scale for R&D to multi-ton bulk quantities for production, in order to escort our customers' projects during their evolution from R&D projects to commercial production. Our Customers are from universities, research organisations, spin-off companies as well as pilot and production departments in world-wide operating concerns. Our Mission is to escort our customers during their projects from R&D to Production as highly qualified supplier. We deliver lab quantities to research units for very competitive prices and supply increasing quantities with same quality and specifications during the evolution of our customers' products to pilot scale and even multi-ton commercial productions with bulk quantities. Our Production Sites are our Joint-Venture partners: Siddhi Vinayaka Spechem P Ltd, Bangalore, India (ISO 9000, GMP certified), GIHON-Laboratorios Químicos SRL, in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Beside that we are cooperating on an exclusive basis with around 35 worldwide selected manufacturers and leading universities with specific expertise in the areas of our activities.
